Job Description

The Director of Teaching and Learning (DTL) is a key leader of our organizational vision to “permanently disrupt educational inequity by ensuring a great school for every child.” The DTL will lead Hiawatha Academies’ efforts to codify core instructional practices, to build the capacity of instructional leaders, and to evaluate the effectiveness of our instructional program. This role reports to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), sits on the Network Support Team, leads the Program sub-team, and manages three roles.

Qualifications

Required:
Proven results as a teacher and school leader or school systems leader
Bachelor's degree
Five-seven years of work experience in a K-12 setting
Commitment to the mission and equity vision of Hiawatha Academies
Knowledge of K-12 curricula, vertical standards alignment, assessments, and instructional practices with expertise developed in English language arts, English language development, and math
Experience coaching and developing teachers and/or school leaders as instructional leaders
Experience analyzing academic data and advising on strategies in response to academic data
Knowledge of culturally relevant pedagogy and teaching and the ways in which equity should manifest in classrooms
Ability to learn quickly and to be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment

Preferred:
Experience managing team members and/or leading a team
Experience setting vision and direction for curriculum, assessments, and instructional practices across a network of schools
Experience designing and delivering a professional development scope and sequence to teachers and school leaders
Experience evaluating instructional program
Experience succession planning for school leadership roles
Master's degree in a relevant field
