Job Description

Assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in music and the performing arts and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate by using approved curricula, materials, and directives of the school.
To instruct individuals or groups in vocal or instrumental music and foster music appreciation. Instructs students in the technical aspects of music, conduct rehearsals, and evaluate student performance.

REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent

• Introduce students to a variety of music and give them a short brief-up about its cultural importance
• Familiarize the students with the basic concepts of music such as notes, tempo, symphony, beats, compositions, chords, scales, rhythm, etc.
• Coach the students to play various songs and jingles on piano, guitar, violin, bongo, and other instruments
• Instruct the students on how to coordinate the songs with other musical instruments
• Teach the students to read the musical notes accurately and imply them practically while playing the instrument
• Acquaint the students with different music genres such as jazz, classical, techno, pop, folk, etc.
• Prepare the students to participate in competitions by directing the music performance of the students
• Identify when a student plays an instrument off-beat or off track and help him correct it
• Foster a liking towards music and inculcate a passion for acquiring the expertise in playing an instrument
• Identify the mistakes and weaknesses of the students and rectify the errors
• Follow various concerts and artists and get updated about the latest trends in music
• Liaise with various other educational institutes in preparing the curriculum of music
• Following other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Deputy Superintendent

• Must have an interest in music
• Should have good knowledge of all different types of music instruments in both way theoretically as well as practically.
• Must have good communication skill to interact with the students
• Must have patience and self-motivated
• Knowledge of standard office software applications including spreadsheet, word processing and email
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to make appropriate decisions quickly


• A bachelor's degree in music education and state certification or a field related to the area of assignment.
• May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience.
• At least 2 years of previous experience related to the position.
• Must have a complete mastery of their specific field and general knowledge of other instruments and music areas.
• Must have good communication skills and be able to establish a rapport with their students.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of music and have excellent experience in teaching and working with students in the field of music.
• Demonstrate personal skills and creative talents in music.
