Under the direction of the principal and director and in collaboration with staff, a NCS special education teacher is responsible for supporting the identification process (general education interventions and evaluations), guiding teams in the formation of standards-based Individual Education Plans for qualifying students, and providing/arranging instruction and programming to address IEP goals. The current schedule involves four periods of teaching, a half-hour advisory period, and a half-period of supervision. Teachers/advisors are also expected to play an active role in supporting the operations and administration of the school.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support general education teachers and others in identification of qualifying special education students
Ensure that special education processes, communications, documents, satisfy all legal requirements.
Plan and implement effective instruction and assessment in alignment with IEP goals and state standards.
Maintain accurate, complete and factual records on each student.
In collaboration with the principal, director, and professional development lead, work with others in pursuit of teacher excellence and maximum student learning.
Monitor students when on school property.
Attend staff meetings, professional development trainings, data analysis days, etc.
Seek and learn from feedback to improve performance and professional competence.
Support the administrative or operational work of the school.
Experience with special education processes, requirements, and documents
Urban teaching experience
Demonstrated success in increasing student achievement
Arts and project-based learning experience
Experience and/or interest in the intersection of social and emotional and academic learning

Our student day is currently from 10:15 AM until 4:45 PM. Staff meetings precede the student day.
