Remarks from Executive Director at Joint Press Conference with Senator Saltzman, 12-1-2009

On Tuesday morning, December 1st, 2009, MACS Executive Director Eugene Piccolo took part in a joint press conference with Senator Kathy Saltzman, Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Charter Schools. This press conference addressed the topics of lease aid and charter school building companies which will be discussed in an upcoming series of Senate Subcommittee hearings.


MACS urges removal of impediment to reform initiatives in HF 935, 3-6-2009

In the charter school bill that passed the House K-12 Education Policy Committee, provisions were included that will place a de-facto moratorium on the establishment of charter schools in many areas of the state, among other concerns. In this press release, MACS presents the case for the removal of such amendments to the bill.


MACS Announces Accountability and Enhancement Legislation, 1-22-2009

On Thursday afternoon, January 22nd, the MN Association of Charter Schools held a news conference to announce our 2009 legislative initiative, “The Charter School Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2009.”

This press release provides further information on our legislative initiative, which is designed to do three things: first, to address a range of accountability issues in a comprehensive way; second, to strengthen oversight processes and procedures in a number of areas; and third, to enhance charter school innovation, governance and operations.


MACS's Position on MN ACLU Lawsuit, 1-22-2009

On Wednesday, January 21st, the MN Chapter of the ACLU filed a lawsuit against a MN Twin Cities Charter School and the MN Department of Education. This press release provides MACS' position on this lawsuit regarding the issues of the First Amendment and leasing space from sectarian organization.
