Minnesota teachers need to maintain and renew their professional licensure every five years through the MN Department of Education. Teachers must have a valid, current license in order to teach in a Minnesota charter school.
Throughout each five-year licensure cycle, teachers should gradually compile professional development activities to meet state requirements and then submit them to a local continuing education/relicensure committee for approval.
The Minnesota Association of Charter Schools has a Teacher Relicensure Committee to review and endorse relicensure requests from current and retired charter school educators.
Who's Eligible to go through MACS?
- Current charter school teachers and administrators
- Teachers who are retired, not currently employed in a charter school, or not currently teaching should contact the MACS Office at 651-789-3090 for policy clarification regarding eligibility.
Surrendering a License
If you plan to surrender one of your licenses, you must do so at least six months in advance, or you will be required to renew all of your licenses that spring.
