The Director of the Northfield School of Arts and Technology (ARTech) reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for fulfilling the mission and goals of the school. ARTech enrolls 126 students in grades 6-12. Salary range $60,000 - $64,000, depending on preparation and experience. Principal’s license or previous experience leading educational settings preferred. 12 -month position with start date July 1, 2008.

Responsibilities As ARTech begins its 6th year of operation, the Board is seeking a leader that has the focus and passion for the challenges ahead in the areas of long-term facilities questions, financial stability and fundraising, public relations and marketing, staff development, and sustainability , as well as the following: • Provides instructional leadership with emphasis in the school’s project-based learning model. • Recognizes individual’s strengths and delegates as needed to fulfill board expectations. • Provides creative, effective, and accountable leadership, working with various constituencies, including teachers, administration, parents, students, and community. • Assures compliance for all applicable statutes or regulations of the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). • Assesses ARTech programs, and makes programmatic changes as necessary to meet the organizations goals. • Develops and maintains all statistical and financial records, prepares local, State and Federal reports; and develops and administers general and grant-funded budget and expenditures. • Determines and provides for necessary equipment and instructional materials, space allocation, and scheduling. Provides for adequate inventories of equipment and supplies and assures for security and maintenance. • Recruits, screens, interviews, supervises, and evaluates all staff. • Responsible for admitting, scheduling, assigning, and supervising the training and instruction of students. • Investigates and recommends approval of cooperative employment and other forms of field experience; places and follows up students graduating from or leaving school; provide, in compliance with law, information regarding students to employers and others requesting such information; and, disseminates information regarding career and technical education. • Works collaboratively with the community and its organizations to further the goals of the school and fulfill the school’s responsibility as a member of our society. • Provides leadership for staff development and for curriculum review and revision. • Provides programs to assist graduates in gaining admission to work and training programs in their relevant field. The Michael Frome Academy (MFA) is an environment-focused, K-5 charter school opening fall 2008 for grades K-3 in a new green facility in Woodbury, Minnesota. MFA will add a grade level each year, expanding to serve grades 4 and 5 in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Sponsored by the Audubon Center of the North Woods, MFA will provide students with place-based learning experiences in the natural environment.
