Mission: The mission of Lionsgate Academy is to provide a transition-oriented and personalized learning program focused on secondary, higher-functioning students on the autism spectrum that supports their full potential, participation, and self-determination within their school, family and community. Special Education Assistants (SEA) work directly under the supervision of licensed staff. Their most essential function is to support the design, implementation and evaluation of education and related services of the program and student progress as directed by licensed staff. It is important that the SEA protect the health and safety of students, maintain confidentiality of students, demonstrate knowledge in the role distinctions of education personnel, and willingly participate in staff development opportunities. They also must demonstrate integrity, respect for diversity, and other standards of ethnical conduct.
Duties of Job
1. Provide direct instructional support to individual and/or groups of students and monitor ability to follow directions and behavior, or attend designated classes/activities with the student(s), as outlined in the IEP.
2. Implement modifications and adaptations to the environment or materials as directed by the licensed staff, and assist staff in maintaining charts and other records related to student(s) progress.
3. Collect data regarding student(s) reaching goals/objectives as directed by licensed staff.
4. Reinforce academic behaviors taught by licensed staff and provide the student with opportunities to practice.
5. Assist student in community, recreational, school, and leisure activities under the direction of licensed staff.
6. Model appropriate pro-social skills, participation, adult behaviors and problem-solving skills.
7. Assist staff in the management of student behavior by applying proactive strategies when dealing with student behaviors, and implementing district-approved techniques for verbal de-escalation and safe physical restraint, such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
8. Act as a cooperative team member in working with staff, community, and families of students.
9. Maintain professional district Special Educational Assistant competencies by attending mandatory in-services and workshops and self-selected professional growth activities as related to the job, and maintain a Professional Development Plan (PDP).
10. Perform other related duties as assigned and required by the building administration and licensed staff.
