MN Association of Charter Schools
The MN Association of Charter Schools Board of Directors recommends that all charter schools which are members of the Association adopt the practice of public oaths of office for charter school board members. (We would also encourage non-member boards to adopt this practice.)
The practice of charter school board members taking a public oath of office before assuming a seat on the board, administered by a legislator, mayor, county commissioner or some other publicly elected official, is a means of stressing the seriousness and importance of accepting the responsibilities of being a board member of a public school.
It is also another way of demonstrating accountability to the general public with the oath being taken before a public official in a public ceremony at the school. It also can serve as a means to build relationships between the school and public officials in the community in which the school is located.
