Job Description
Position: Math Intervention Specialist
Schedule: 9 month

Reports to: Executive Director
Position Summary:
The Math Intervention Specialist is a highly-qualified teacher of mathematics who provides explicit mathematics instruction in a one-to-one or small group setting to improve specific mathematics skills of a particular student or small group of students to support regular classroom instruction. The math interventionist will work with the Director of Teaching and Learning, special education teachers, and mathematics teachers to design and create intervention plans of learning aligned with regular classroom mathematics objectives and most appropriate for each students or small group of students identified as at-risk of meeting grade level mathematics proficiency. The math interventionist will also monitor and report student progress and/or response to planned program of mathematics instruction and adjusts as needed to increase student mathematics achievement. The focus of the math intervention specialist is to develop a student-centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gaps in mathematics.

Job Duties:
Screen and assess students to establish proper performance level.
Provide intensive instruction to struggling students individually or in small groups within or outside of the students’ classrooms.
Analyze school and student data and recommend modifications to instruction and interventions for students for meeting and exceeding student achievement goals.
Monitor student progress and arrange for academic interventions based on formative and summative assessments.
Serve as a resource in the area of mathematics for paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators, and the community.
Collaborate with teachers to ensure student mastery of standards by assisting with data driven instructional planning, integration of technology and implementation of research based strategies.
Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
Collaborate with the School Wide Support Team (SWST)
Maintains effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders on a regular basis.
Collaborates with colleagues to enhance the instructional environment.
Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and community.
Participates in professional development activities.
Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating work with others.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning.

Working Conditions:
Physical Ability: Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.
Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Qualifications

Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience:
Applicant must be a licensed math teacher and currently hold a valid teaching license.
