Position: Behavior Specialist (full-time)
Schedule: 9 month
Reports to: Executive Director
The Twin Cities German Immersion School has an opening for a Behavior Specialist for our K-8 learning environment. The Behavior Specialist is responsible for providing early intervening services for behavioral difficulties in accordance with MDE requirements for Alternative Delivery of Specialized Instructional Supports (consultation to support teachers with materials, lesson plans and ideas to deliver evidence based tier 1 interventions for students or groups with behavioral difficulties; design and delivery of direct, evidence based tier 2 interventions – individual and/or group - for students with patterns of behavioral difficulty, as identified by the school wide support team). The Behavioral Specialist will be a member of the Student Support Team and the School Wide Support Team and will assist with program development including procedures to facilitate data based decision-making. The Behavioral specialist will also support school-wide efforts to develop and implement a social emotional curriculum K-8.
Assist in the development of district behavior systems.
Facilitate the practice of data based decision making in team problem solving for students with behavioral difficulties.
Collect and use benchmark data to identify and serve students with behavioral Difficulties.
Consult with teachers to provide ideas and materials to facilitate high quality, evidence based tier 1 interventions for students with behavioral difficulties
Maintain appropriate records and reports. Collect and maintain data on direct service activities with students in accordance with the requirements of the Minnesota Department of Education, maintain parent permission files, maintain student progress data files
Develop and deliver tier II interventions for behavior following evidence-based practices.
Including create and facilitate social skills groups and individual counseling sessions with those students who have qualified for services through School Wide Support Team process and have been given parental consent to participate.
Participate in the building Student Support Team, School Wide Support Team, Paraprofessional meetings and staff meetings
Communicate effectively with students, families, educators, and administrators regarding student interventions and progress.
Create and maintain a professional working relationship with families and staff.
Provide professional development training for faculty and staff as directed by administration
Participate in school-wide social emotional curriculum development.
Other duties as assigned.
Valid School Psychologist License or Valid Minnesota Teaching License
Ability to communicate in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
Appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
Knowledge of evidence based interventions for emotional and/or behavioral difficulties of students K-8
Experience with Response to Intervention (RtI) and/or Multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS)
Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Experience with objective measurement of behavioral symptoms
German language ability preferred
