Job Description

The role of the guide is to further our mission to provide a quality Montessori education through inspiring learning environments and strong relationships based on respect for the gifts of each student.
This position provides instruction in English/Language Arts for students in grades 9-12 in an interdisciplinary setting, requiring a license in Communication Arts and Literature. IB Literature, IB THeater and Theory of Knowledge are key aspects of the curriculum, and close collaboration with the Humanities team is part of the year-long curriculum.

Implementing the IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum using student centered learning, cooperative learning groups, and best practices within the field
Using a team approach with fellow colleagues to provide high quality instruction
Guiding a camping trip with students in the fall, and designing and teaching a one week intensive course in the spring.
Working closely with Program Coordinator to ensure effective curriculum instruction
Providing an advising role for a group of students throughout the year

Incorporating intentional methods of effective group work is an expectation for all guides at Great River School. These specific methods seek to actively disrupt systems of oppression as related to status and identity of students. The methods and practices for effective group work are included in the PD and trainings of Great River School. Attending summer equity training is at the discretion of the employee but is encouraged.


MN Teaching License in Communication Arts and Literature.
Training in and experience teaching IB courses in the Diploma Programme

Preferred Qualifications:
Credential in Montessori (AMI or AMS or NAMTA), or open to training.
Experience teaching in hands-on settings, interest and willingness to engage in trips and expeditionary learning with students
Knowledge of and experience with teaching in the IB Diploma Program
Experience in Theater Arts and Play Production
Desire to be part of a team of professional educators who collaborate and create an environment that serves students holistically.
