Job Description

Academic Coach
Part Time (0.5 FTE)

Position Overview
The academic coach is responsible for the academic success of students and teacher practice. The coach inspires teachers to excel in their jobs and train faculty to motivate students to achieve their highest potential. They provide instructional and administrative leadership to the teaching staff, oversee the creation and implementation of a culturally competent curriculum, coordinate assessments, and monitor students' academic performance.

The academic coach is responsible for:
Academic oversight. The coach ensures the academic success of all students; recommends necessary actions and strategies; ensures the academic schedule: oversees effective implementation of culturally competent curriculum and instruction; coordinates the administration of all assessments and the timely and accurate data entry of scores; prepares and facilitates data retreats with faculty to analyze test results and academic performance; and reviews report cards for accuracy in academic entries.

Teacher coaching. The coach mentors the faculty; and ensures that teaching is at all times intentional, culturally appropriate, engaging, and rigorous.

Professional Learning Community: The coach will collaborate with the Executive Director and Academic Dean to provide teachers with high quality professional development and curriculum implementation guidance to meet the needs of all learners that results in meaningful change to practice in classrooms.

Academic operations. The coach ensures textbooks and materials are provided for each classroom and matched to the pacing charts; secures additional materials needed to meet state-mandated curriculum and state testing requirements; coordinates the referral of students with perceived special needs to appropriate personnel; and plans and leads assigned school events and programs.

Internal relationships. The coach ensures smooth and efficient working relations that positively impact academics; works closely and efficiently with the school director and the faculty to ensure student success and smooth operations; and requests support as needed.

Student/parent/community relations. The coach reinforces positive student behavior and establishes rapport with students; counsels students with serious academic problems; reviews and approves official school communications regarding academic progress or updates; and coordinates individual academic concerns with parents as appropriate.

Staff and Reporting Relationships
The academic coach reports to the Academic Dean.

The academic coach must:

Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers

Demonstrate alignment with the educational philosophy and core beliefs of El Colegio

Student Day
The El Colegio student schedule is from 9:05 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Friday from 9:05 a.m. – 2:12 p.m. Teachers are expected to be in the building at 8:30-4:15 p.m.

Salary for this position is based on experience and abilities and the El Colegio Board of Directors approves annual salary adjustments. A comprehensive benefits package is included.

Candidates must have:
A clear record of elevating student achievement in an urban classroom, with a strong understanding of culturally competent pedagogy that drives results
Eight or more years of experience teaching high school to English Language Learners and Bilingual Education
Demonstrated success using data to drive instruction
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills (written and oral)
Excellent skills of organization and follow-through
A Master's or higher preferred
