Institution Description

Our guiding principles:
Purpose: Improve pupil learning and student achievement
Mission: To grow environmentally literate, community impacting learners of excellence
Vision: Crosslake Community School: C.C.S. – where academics lead to a stronger, healthier community
Environmental Education: We integrate environmental education into each grade level, building awareness of what students can do in their daily lives to be responsible environmental stewards.

With a newly built, state-of-the art building, Crosslake Community School offers a unique learning environment, specializing in multi-age classrooms and parent, teacher, and student partnerships. By design, our classes are limited to 19 students – providing for very personalized, high quality educational experiences that are difficult to duplicate in larger school settings.

In addition to our Pre-K-8 traditional, seat-based program, Crosslake Community School also offers a hybrid online model to grades 5-12 in order to give students the flexibility they may need in order to pursue personal activities as well as completing the required courses to receive their high school diploma. While students need to be motivated, hard-working, and dedicated to the online model, the adults surround them with encouragement, academic assistance, and support to ensure that no student falls through the cracks.

The school is financially sound with an annual budget of over $3.5M. The school board consists of four teachers, three parents, and one community member. They are highly engaged and committed to ensuring that students, staff, parents, and the community have the resources they need to exceed the school’s mission.

Crosslake Community School is Authorized by Audubon Center of the Northwoods. Their mission is to ensure quality academic and environmental literacy outcomes for Minnesota students through effective charter school authorizing. Their vision is to authorize a portfolio of high performing charter schools that instill a connection and commitment to the environment in their school communities, while working towards a healthy planet where all people live in balance with the Earth. Since 2011, ACNW has grown to become the largest authorizer of charter schools in Minnesota by number of schools authorized.
