Job Description

Full Time Special Education Teacher at Cannon River STEM School

This position reports to the Student Services Coordinator/Executive Director

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students while considering state and school requirements, and physical, emotional, and educational levels of development.
• Works collaboratively with classroom instructors to ensure continuity of curriculum adaptation to meet student needs.
• Confers with parents, administrators, testing coordinators, other service providers, and others to develop an Individual Educational Program (IEP) for student.
• Conducts comprehensive assessments to determine eligibility for special education services.
• Instructs students in all academic subjects.
• Creates learning materials geared to each student’s ability and interest.
• Instructs students to improve sensory-motor and perceptual-motor development, perception, memory, language, cognition, and social and emotional development.
• Works with students to increase motivation, consistently reinforce learning, continually assess level of functioning, and provide continuous feedback to students for all learning activities.
• Works with parent to accept and develop skills in dealing with student’s disability.
• Observes and complies with due process timelines and documentation expectations.
• Participates in building leadership activities and being a team player.
• Normal and regular attendance.


Required Education, License, Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree of related subject from accredited university.
• Valid MN teaching license (K-12 Special Education), ABS licensure or duel licensure that includes ASD
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, administrators, agency personnel and others.
• Must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative and flexible.
• Must clear pre-employment background check and substance abuse screening.

Desirable Qualifications
• Previous special education experience.
• Project based or environmental education teaching experience.

Physical Requirements
• Must be able to operate a computer, copier, printer, fax machine and phone.
• Must be able to stand, walk, navigate rugged terrain, reach with arms and hands, balance, stoop, sit on the floor, kneel and lift 50 pounds.
