Job Description

Job Title: School Finance & Grant Specialist
Department: Business Office
Supervisor: Director of Business Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

The School Finance and Grant Specialist supports the business office at Duluth Edison Charter Schools in activities related to state, federal and internal reporting of General and Special Education and grant programs, procurement, third-party reimbursement, and record keeping. This is a half-time (.5 FTE) year round (12 month) position and works closely with the Special Education department, particularly the Special Education Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Business
Responsible for State/Federal/Internal financial reporting related to General and Special Education and grants
Personnel budget oversight as it relates to Special Education and grant budget management
Ensure adherence to Uniform Grant Guidance related to special education/grant policies and procedures
Review/reconcile and maintain quality control of all Time and Effort reporting for the district.
Assist in creation of Special Education/grant related invoicing.
Draw funds/maintain backup on grants.
Assist with application of Special Education and Grants in coordination with program.
Reconcile all end of year grants.

Other
Propose updates to policies/procedures for special education department following Uniform Grant Guidance
Conduct assigned research, participate in training regarding fiscal management and grant guidelines
Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting or business related discipline; or 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred: Knowledge of State of MN UFARS, SEDRA, SERVS, SMART Accounting Software

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

Required computer skills include an intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet software such as Excel and the ability to learn industry-specific finance software. Knowledge of the full MS Office Suite is required with particular emphasis on Excel. Working knowledge of special education assistive technology tools
