Job Description

To support the classroom teacher and advance HCPA educational programs and create a classroom environment that is conductive to teaching, learning and personal growth in accordance with each faculty members and student’s ability. To base one’s assistance to the classroom teacher on the premise that all children can learn and will learn to their highest potential.


Must have an AA/AS or BA/BS. An equivalent amount of coursework or related professional experience may be considered.

Have at least 1-2 years of experience in a classroom setting. Other experience may be considered.

Have knowledge and understanding of curriculum and strategic planning.

Be knowledgeable using a PC computer and use Microsoft applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Use effective communication skills both oral and written, with the ability to give formal oral presentations to groups.

Use excellent time management skills.

Reports To: Cheif Operating Officer

Length of Assignment: Approx186-190 Contractual Days per the Board Approved School Calendar.

School/Student Support Specialist Job Description/Responsibilities: Instructional Support

Under the supervision of a licensed teacher; provide instruction to students regarding study skills, reading decoding, reading for a purpose, math strategies, instruction for student to understand and use math facts, science, social studies, etc..

Tutor and assist students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities.

Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups to master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by classroom teacher.

Use the Lesson Plan Formats developed by licensed teachers to implement instructional support; present lessons to large groups to enable classroom teacher to work with small group, etc.

Use information provided during professional development and training sessions (when applicable) to strengthen instruction by incorporating appropriate strategies in group activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.

Include instructional strategies taught by licensed teachers to focus on learning needs of HCPA students in daily classroom support and activities.

Perform hall monitoring, bus duties and lunch room monitoring duties

Assist in all school events, activities, and sport program, and school functions

Assume other requirements deemed necessary by the supervisor or his/her designee.

Hall Monitor Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensure the hallways are clear and safe
Ensure there are no students lingering in halls, bathrooms, stairways, etc.
Ensure students enter their appropriate classrooms
Assist leadership team in ongoing marketing campaign: develop school flyers and marketing materials for student recruitment
Do ongoing home visits to market HA school programs and enroll new students
Assist in ongoing parents/student outreach and/or phone calls to current parents/students to retain current enrolled students
Completing any additional tasks as deemed necessary by the leadership team

Able to provide professional development in programs and services
Strong time management, written and oral skills
Motivated high performer with excellent organization skills
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with students, parents, teachers and other school staff
Operate office equipment and machines such as fax machines, copies, phone systems, postage machine and computers.
Ability to manage multiple tasks at once
Remain calm in emergency and stressful situations
Work Environment/Conditions: Reporting for duty: all employees are required to be on duty and ready for students per work schedule as allocated by the direct supervisor. Each employee is assigned a security “swipe-card” that keeps a record of all entries and exits. All employees are required to use the swipe-card when entering the building (even the front entrance) and when leaving the building. The attendance program will automatically keep an annual record of the entering and exiting time for all individuals.

Operate standard equipment (computer, fax machine, telephone, copier machines, etc.)
Complete additional job requirements that support and enhance teaching and learning, such as appropriate participation in professional development and training sessions; off-campus sessions, etc.
Fast pace work environment, ability to work 40 hours
