Job Description

Southside Family Charter School
Middle School Language Arts/Social Justice Educator

Planning and Preparing for Learning
1. Selects appropriate educational experiences in line with our social justice curriculum for the students assigned to him/her which will meet the predetermined learner outcomes of the curriculum and the graduation standards of Minnesota.

2. Develops lesson plans to ensure the lesson sequence is in line with the established curriculum or goals.
3. Communicates and coordinates curriculum and teaching procedures with other staff members in team or grade level.
4. Coordinates offsite school experiences as assigned and collaborates with team members.
5. Develops and maintains working knowledge of subjects taught and demonstrates an understanding of how the subject’s goals fit into the overall school curriculum plan and address Minnesota state standards.

Class Management
6. Establishes a positive learning environment by communicating consistent expectations for appropriate behavior in alignment with school policy. Encourages student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect in a manner consistent with Board of Director policies, procedures and legal requirements.

Teaching and Effective Instruction
7. Modifies and adapts materials and strategies to meet individual needs of each learner within various learning environments.
8. Complies with specialized processes/programming such as student health plans, Section 504 plans, Child Find and

Special Education Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Monitoring and Assessment
9. Is responsible for keeping an up-to-date running record of student progress.
10. Plans for and implements classroom and school-wide assessments in alignment with curriculum and the school-wide assessment plan.
11. Ensures that students are adequately prepared for state assessments.
12. Trains for and administers state tests, as needed.

Family Communications and Outreach
13. Communicates effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress on a regular basis.
14. Communicates with parents/guardians, as needed, regarding behavioral, academic, or other concerns affecting their child(ren)’s ability to learn.
15. Participates in regularly scheduled school activities (outside of school hours) in support of the school’s mission and vision.
16. Effectively plans and carries out parent/student/teacher conferences.

General Responsibilities
17. Participates in staff meetings, team meetings for staff development committees, curriculum projects, school events, and travel study.
18. Supervises students during the school day according to established school supervision schedule as well as indirect supervision at all times during school activities.
19. Works with staff, parents and administrators in addressing student concerns.
20. Places orders for educational materials, supplies, and equipment for educational use in accordance with curriculum plan, budget parameters, and internal controls.
21. Maintains appropriate licensure for all grade levels and subjects taught in accordance with MN statutes and rules.

22. Works with administration (or assigned personnel) to identify professional needs and develop strategies to meet those needs - including pursuing professional development experiences to broaden and deepen knowledge of content and teaching skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree
Middle school teaching license with an endorsement with Communication arts & Literature, Math, Social studies or General Science
Minimum of 2 years teaching experience
Some experience with Distance Learning
