Job Description

Primary Objective:
This position will teach International Baccalaureate (IB) mathematics to approximately 60 11th and 12th year students. Also, this role takes a lead in providing intervention and additional instruction in math skills to 9th and 10th grade students. A successful hire for this position would be trained in the instruction of both Analysis and Applications for IB mathematics - fully covered by Great River School. (This is an appealing training to teachers who are planning possible long-term careers working in the IB). A candidate would also have experience with math screening tools to support identifying students for intervention.

Essential Responsibilities Include:
Teaches IB mathematics in the IB Diploma Programme
Uses identified needs to guide the learning process toward student achievement of district’s math content standards. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data obtained from students.
Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities to support content standards and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required school guidelines.
Implements all policies and rules governing student life and conduct both in the school and on field trips.
Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes during agreed upon work hours.
Conducts or participates in needed parent conferences and telephone conferences.
Serves as an advisor to an advisory of 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students, including overseeing and supporting students in experiential learning and reflection in Creativity - Activity - Service (CAS).
Helps to plan and facilitate week-long GRS Key Experiences including a fall trip and a week of experiential learning in Spring Intensives.

Assessment responsibilities:
Conducts student diagnostic assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and assists staff members in learning various assessment techniques. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
Collaborates, as needed, with appropriate personnel, including colleagues in the math department and the Child Find team, regarding students who may need specialized interventions.
Plan and implement culturally relevant curriculum and pedagogy that aligns with Montessori method, IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning, standards-based grading.
Coordinate and support IB internal and external assessments.

Professional Development responsibilities:
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development activities.
Participates in discussions or activities focused on using research to improve math.
Participates in staff development focused on delivery of math intervention and assessment.
Works toward continuous learning in Anti-bias, Anti-racist teaching and learning, culturally relevant pedagogy, and standards-based grading.
Participate in appropriate IB and Montessori training, as needed. May involve travel.
Participates in training for math diagnostic tools
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Supervisor

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
Valid Minnesota Teaching License, Mathematics 5-12
Experience working with students individually and in small groups on a wide range of math skill levels
Montessori experience
IB experience
Experience with standards-based grading
Experience working with NWEA-MAP or STAR Math as assessments

Organization description: Great River School is a public Montessori school for students ages 6 through 18. The school began in 2004 and has grown to serve students in a 1st-6th year elementary program and a 7th-12th year adolescent program. All students in grades 11 and 12 participate in International Baccalaureate courses, with many students completing the IB Diploma Program.
