Job Description

The Director serves as the educational, instructional, and non-teaching and learning aspects of operating the business of the charter school. The position entails general and specific responsibilities as required to lead the District’s educational programs. These responsibilities are unique to this school and its population.

-Communication and reports to Board of Directors and Board Chair.
-Within the school community, inspire a culture of excellence that is centered on the School’s vision and mission.
-Manages, supervises, and disciplines all staff.
-Coordinates and oversees staff development and training that is aligned to the State Frameworks, Montessori, and Staff Development Plan.
-Leads weekly/ Monthly meetings with Learning Leaders and staff
-Develop and maintain research-based educational programs such as Montessori in conjunction with state law, charter school laws and regulations, and MN State Frameworks.
-Coordinates all programs associated with Building and Grounds, including set up of special events, building janitorial and maintenance needs, contractors, and supervision of school janitorial staff.
-Oversees School Emergency and Crisis Management & Coordination of Drills.
-Serves on the Facilities Committee.

-Updates and organizes school policies, creating staff and family handbooks, job descriptions, personnel policies and procedures, and signs all employment agreements and amendments before the start of each school year.
-Completes state reporting requirements, including the charter school annual report and World’s Best Workforce Report.
-Oversees Student Accounting Programs (JMC, student cumulative files)
-Oversees Human Relations (HR, personnel files, insurance programs)

-Oversees the development of the School’s annual budget in coordination with the Board of Director’s Finance Committee and Business Manager.
-Maintains ongoing communication regarding financial decisions with the Finance Committee.
-Serves as the District’s Representative with Authority to sign all contracts and agreements with outside providers.
-Oversees the reporting of financial data to the State Department of Education.
-Oversees all financial transactions including payroll.
-Tracks and approves all purchases and signs all Purchase Orders and Checks. Distributes budgets to Learning Leaders with approved curriculum and program expenses.
-Oversees the Annual financial Audit and associated financial reporting.
-Oversees banking matters and collaborates with the Business Manager to ensure all deposits and checks are dispersed in a timely manner.

-Maintains an open-door policy for parents.
-Participates in parent-student and teacher discipline meetings.
-Works with parents to create an Advisory Council, and to implement programs for parents and students.
-Is present at all school events, and serves as the leader and planner of school events.

-Collaborate with the Manager of Operations in the development of grants and other fundraising activities in the School.

-Responsible For (but may delegate duties):
Press Releases and articles for calendar events and other special events.
Overseeing Disbursement of School Newsletter
Interface with community organizations on fundraising opportunities as they arise
Overseeing any social media as it applies to the school (i.e. Facebook, Twitter)
Oversee postings on paper information boards in the school building
General School Public Relations

-Oversee recruitment and retention initiatives
-Oversee after school activities programs
-Oversee Riverway’s Special Events
-Oversee Riverway’s community partnerships

Qualifications

Riverway Learning Community is searching for a full-time Director of academic programs to begin June 1, 2021, or earlier, based on availability. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and experiences, and have a passion for the mission and vision of Riverway. The Director will be an innovative, approachable, inspirational, and community-oriented leader who collaboratively facilitates the academic programs alongside the staff, students, and families. The ideal candidate will be a reflective leader and lifelong learner who has a belief in shared decision-making to facilitate the development
Education: Master’s Degree in Education and/or Administration
Preference for Montessori Certification

Knowledge of: State of MN Laws and Regulations for Public Schools
MN Charter School Laws and Regulations
Special Education
Implementation of standards-based curriculum, Montessori Curriculum and Educational reform models

Experience: Minimum of three to five years charter school experience preferred
Demonstrated experience in educational leadership

Ability to: Work effectively with Professional Learning Communities (PLC)
Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with staff, students, parents and the community
Effectively lead change
Effectively lead a diverse staff and student population
Effectively implement data-driven decisions following the school’s Charter Authorizer Contract
Effective implementation of Learning Leader accountability following the Learning Leader Job Description & Duties
Communicate effectively with all stakeholders: students, parents, staff, and Board of Directors

Institution Description

Riverway Learning Community is a preK– 12th-grade charter public school in Winona, MN specifically designed according to our Vision “Inspired Holistic Learning.” Riverway, established in 2000, provides a uniquely individualized education to over 100 students in a community-like atmosphere. Students learn in a supportive environment that enhances self-worth, creativity, and responsibility. With Montessori classrooms for students in preschool through grade six, project-based education for 7th-12th graders, and an inclusive Special Education program, all students’ needs are met in multi-aged settings through an integrated curriculum that connects learning to life. Environmental Education is an important focus and meshes perfectly with the expectation of our Authorizer, Osprey Wilds. Riverway’s accomplishments over the last 5 years include: excellent financial health, student enrollment up and attrition is down, staff turnover is negligible, reading and math proficiency is trending upward.
