Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES for the LITERATURE INCLUDE:
● Implementing curriculum using student-centered learning; intentionally structured
group work for heterogeneous classrooms; & best practices within the field
● Using a team approach with fellow colleagues to provide high-quality instruction
● Participating in a multi-night overnight experiential learning trip with students in the
fall, and designing and guiding with students a one-week intensive course in the spring.
● Working closely with Program Director to ensure effective instruction and professional
engagement in needs of the level
● Providing an advisory role for a group of Upper Adolescent (10th-12th grade) students
throughout the year (15 min per day) Incorporating intentional methods of effective group work is an expectation for all guides at Great River School. These specific methods seek to actively disrupt systems of oppression as related to the status and identity of students. The methods and practices for effective group work are included in the PD and training of Great River School. Attending summer equity training at the
Science House (of Science Museum of Minnesota) is at the discretion of the employee but is
highly encouraged.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
- MN Teaching License in Language Arts/Literature (or ability to acquire licensure)
- Passion and willingness to be a part of a team of educators, working together for a
common purpose
- Courage, humility, humor, and persistence
Preferred Qualifications:
● Credential in Montessori (AMI, AMS, MACTE, NAMTA), & open to training and
Montessori orientation
● Experience teaching in hands-on settings, interest, and willingness to engage in trips and
expeditionary learning with students
● Knowledge of and experience with teaching in the IB Diploma Program
● Desire to be part of a team of professional educators who collaborate and create
an environment that serves students holistically
