Job Description

Due to a resignation, the Math and Science Academy (MSA) of Woodbury is hiring a special education paraprofessional, “Education Assistant” five days a week for 7.25 to 8 hours per day, with benefits prorated to match FTE. Pay scale is $16 to $24/per hour depending on education and years of experience. Start date is August 31, 2021 or as soon after as possible.

The paraprofessional at MSA provides support to students requiring supervision and special assistance. This service may be required on a one-to-one or small group basis and is guided by an IEP. The EA provides support, explanation, and reteaching and discipline.

1) Establishes a rapport with students and assists in supporting student learning based on lessons developed and presented by the teacher.
Explains and interprets class assignments.
Provides learning and re-teaching of lessons as needed and as directed by the teacher.
2) Chart student progress as directed.
4) Take notes in general education classes and create study guides as needed for targeted students.
5) Guide practice with social skills strategies
6) Manage and chart student behavior and progress as directed.
7) Assist students with transitions between activities/classes
8) Maintain confidentiality
9) Advocate for student(s) to ensure IEP accommodations/modifications are occurring in the general education curriculum.
10) Be a positive role model; modeling school appropriate behavior at all times.
11) Attend school sponsored training when appropriate.
12) Assist special education teachers as directed.
13) Provide communication between the classroom teacher and case manager.

14) Communicate/alert case manager with student concerns, missing assignments.



Two-year college degree plus a minimum of three years of paraprofessional experience with two years of education beyond high school
Bachelor of Science or Arts degree and experience working with children in a paid position


Two-year college degree or higher (four-year degree preferred)
Successful experience working with middle and high school age students
Successful experience working with students with special needs
Ability to support academic work for students in grades K-12 including English, math, science, and social studies
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Ability to work cooperatively with teacher, students, staff, and parents
Responsible work and attendance ethic
Cultural competence
Second language speaker, such as Spanish or American Sign Language

The Math and Science Academy (MSA) of Woodbury, MN has a growing, diverse student body that celebrates each person’s ethnicity and culture.
