Job Description

General Description:
This position prepares and delivers instruction of dance and mindfulness using state standards, the Montessori Method, and best practices for constructivist education, the Guide: monitors student progress, supports students in understanding concepts and skills, manages student goals and assessment within the course, carries out duties related to the operation of Great River School including community meetings, collaboration with student support specialists, special education, and colleagues teaching within the same level and department.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Design and implement a constructivist based curriculum that implements necessary life skills

Support students developing their own mindful practices
Execution of lesson preparation, assessment, documentation and communication with colleagues, students and families
Interest and willingness to engage in trips and expeditionary learning and experiential learning with students, desire to be part of a team of professional educators who collaborate and create an environment that serves students holistically.

Professional Development responsibilities:
Works toward continuous learning in Anti-bias, Anti-racist teaching and learning, culturally relevant pedagogy, and standards-based grading.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development activities.
Participates in discussions or activities focused on using research to improve scientific teaching and learning.

Participate in appropriate Montessori training, as needed. May involve travel.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Supervisor
Understand developmental tendencies of the middle school student (7th through 9th grade), implement student centered and inquiry based learning opportunities and curriculum writing, and systematic best practices in teaching with a diverse perspective


Candidates who are highly qualified in one area (Montessori, or advanced, innovative instruction) can work with the district to find and address other areas of qualification or training. All interested Candidates are encouraged to apply!

Preferred Qualifications:
We are a school overtly interested in supporting BIPoC teachers and educators in a fulfilling and rewarding work environment. All science teachers of all backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply.

Other qualifications:
Valid Minnesota Teaching License, FACS
Experience working with students individually and in small groups on a wide range of science skill levels
Montessori experience
Experience with standards-based grading
