Job Description

Under the direction of the executive director and in collaboration with staff, the NCS 5-8 visual art teacher will equitably instruct students in visual arts as part of a broader school team.

The position is half-time (0.5 FTE)--Tuesday through Friday 60% of the day. Classes take place on T/Th during the first 60% of the day and W/F during the last 60% of the day.

The art teacher will provide engaging art instruction using the best curricular, technological, and other tools available with support from administration and staff. The 5-8 teacher partners with the K-4 art teacher around curriculum planning and materials and is a teammate with the 5-6 and 7-8 teacher teams in which they collaborate on ongoing learning expedition development. All teachers are involved in monthly professional learning. Teachers actively support the vision-focused operations and administration of the school.

Classes are held in a dedicated art classroom space

The student day is currently from 10:15 AM until 4:45 PM. Teacher hours are 8:00 to 4:00 and meetings precede the student day.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Current Minnesota Visual arts teacher teaching license K-12
Experience with diverse student populations

Preferred
Urban teaching experience
Demonstrated success in increasing student achievement
Arts and project-based learning experience
Experience and/or interest in the intersection of social and emotional and academic learning

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As Teacher:
--Plan and implement effective instruction and assessment in alignment with state standards.
--Participate productively in professional development activities that hone the craft.
--Collaborate with advisors, administrators, students and families to ensure each student receives the support they need.
--Maintain accurate, complete and factual records on each student.

General:
--In collaboration with the director and instructional coach, work with staff to maximize student learning.
--Monitor students when on school property.
--Attend staff meetings, professional development trainings, data analysis days, etc.
--Seek and learn from feedback to improve performance and professional competence.
--Support the administration and operation of the school.
