Job Description

Sojourner Truth Academy (STA) is currently seeking a committed, passionate ADSIS Behavior Intervention Teacher, who holds a belief in the ability of our scholars, to join our team for the 2022-2023 school year. This licensed position provides research based targeted intervention in areas of behavior and social emotional learning.
POSITION SUMMARY
Support scholars whose behavior impedes their learning by implementing positive behavior systems, interventions and strategies, i.e., small groups, check-ins, social emotional lessons, etc.
Utilize and/or develop supplemental curricular resources to guide small group instruction.
Coordinate data management systems and implement individual or group scholar interventions based on data and function.
Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior, understanding principles of reinforcement, teaching new behavior, implementing strategies for decreasing behavior and identifying antecedents
Consult with teachers to provide ideas and materials to facilitate high quality, evidence based Tier 2 interventions for scholars with behavioral difficulties.
Engage parents/families in the scholar behavior intervention plan process and empower parents by providing them skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their scholar
Use ongoing assessments and data to maintain appropriate records and reports of scholar progress.
Work collaboratively with Associate Director, Scholar Success Coach and building administrators to promote positive scholar behavior by providing professional development that targets research, strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior supports in their classrooms
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of STA’s academic team, the ADSIS Behavior Interventionist will be responsible for setting standards and laying a foundation of academic success for scholars by providing high-quality, relevant instruction to individual or small groups of students in a positive learning environment.
Academic/Instructional

Deliver high-quality, individualized behavior strategies based on scholars’ needs.
Utilize and/or develop supplemental curricular resources to guide small group instruction
Collect and analyze data to determine effectiveness of interventions and next steps based on student performance
Participate in weekly PLC meetings with grade-level staff
Collaborate with STA staff including but not limited to classroom teachers, the Academic Coach, and other interventionists as needed

Organization/Planning

Work within established timelines to accurately and efficiently complete required duties, including data analysis, instructional planning, and reporting
Demonstrate computer competency in Microsoft Office suite and/or Google suite, email, and Internet
Utilize excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Reporting

Monitor scholar academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives for instruction
Maintain individual scholar records, files and reports of academic progress through online reporting documents in a manner that preserves confidentiality

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Associates or Bachelor’s degree

CERTIFICATE & LICENSURE: Minnesota License (Social Work, Behavior Interventionists, Psychology)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate small group/individual activities
Ability to collect, analyze, and respond to academic data
Understanding of the Minnesota State Standards in mathematics and appropriate elementary curricular resources
Create a positive learning environment for all scholars
Acts as a team player
Has a solutions-oriented approach
Maintain attention to detail and effectively prioritize workload and multiple tasks to align with the needs of our scholars and school community as a whole
Talks about our work, scholars, families, and community is a respectful way
A proven passion for working with urban youth and an unshakeable belief in their potential
Demonstrated track record of successfully working in a diverse working environment with people of color (particularly African-American and Hispanic students, staff, and families) and socio-economically disadvantaged communities AND/OR training in cultural competency and/or institutional racism
Professional attire and professionalism in communicating with scholars, parents and staff
Receptive to constructive feedback and actively seek help and/or professional development in challenging areas

Sojourner Truth Academy is a results-driven school founded in 1999 and is the oldest, most established charter school in North Minneapolis. Sojourner Truth Academy is a PK-8 open-enrollment public charter school in Minneapolis, MN.
