Job Description

Essential functions of the job may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Classroom Instruction
● Promotes the MSA Mission and Vision in all communications and interactions.
● Embodies MSA Core Values in daily activities.
● Attend IEP meetings as requested.
● Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
● Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
● Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
● Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
● Treat all students in an equitable manner.
● Maintain a current website for all classes.
● Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
● Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of MSA.
● Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, school policies and regulations.
● Utilizes proper students’ preferred pronouns and name(s) in class and when communicating with parents/guardians.
● Provide timely feedback to students on all assigned work.
● Prepare required reports on students and activities.
● Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
● Communicate information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
● Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
● Prepare the classroom for class activities.
● Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
● Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.
● Assign and grade class work, homework, test and assignments.
● Comply with all 504 and Individualized Education Program (IEP) accommodations and modifications for classroom students.
● Collaborate with Educational Assistants on behavioral and academic areas of concern for students they support.
● Supply academic updates on students as requested by the 504 Coordinator or Case Manager in a timely manner.
● Prepare a yearly budget for classroom resources.
2. Additional functions:
● Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
● Attend and participate in 8 am Wednesday meetings.
● Encourage parent and community involvement.
● Obtain information for parents when requested.
● Promptly return phone calls and respond to emails.
● Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
● Monitor hallways before school, between class periods, and after school.
● Participate as an active member in governance and service activities.
● Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
● Other duties as assigned.
3. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Required:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

● B.A./B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related teaching field.
● Minnesota State certification/license in teaching in appropriate subject area.
● Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
● Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
● Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
● Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish MSA’s Mission and Vision. ● Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
● Meet professional teacher education requirements of school and state.
● Demonstrate and promote MSA Core Values.
● Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift
and/or move up to 10 pounds.


-MN teaching license in Chemistry.
-Experience working in a multicultural learning environment with a commitment to and passion for educational equity.
-Dedication to the goal of ensuring that all students have equal access to a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum.
-Training in culturally responsive teaching and social emotional learning.
-Experience providing differentiated instruction and Tier 2 academic and behavioral interventions.

Institution Description

Math and Science Academy (MSA) of Woodbury, MN is a public charter school that serves approximately 550 students in grades 6-12. We offer small class sizes in an academically challenging yet nurturing community which fosters MSA’s vision and mission. The school has a student to teacher ratio of 17:1. MSA has a growing, diverse student body and seeks to increase the diversity of its staff. MSA offers a high level of faculty autonomy within a
collaborative environment.

MSA has recently been ranked the top high school in the state by U. S. News and World Report and best public middle school and second best public high school in Minnesota by Niche. Niche also ranks MSA as having the best public high school teachers in the state. For the past five years MSA has had the top ACT Composite average score for all Minnesota schools. Last year, 100% of MSA students graduated and for the past five years, 95% of MSA seniors have graduated. Over this same time period, 90-95% of seniors have attended post-secondary institutions.
