Job Description

The Math and Science Academy is hiring a Floating Educational Assistant. This role provides educational support, based on system and student needs as assigned by the Special Services Coordinator or administrative team.

This person’s daily schedule will fluctuate based on those needs prioritized with:

Substitute Teaching
Substitute for Educational Assistants
Provide one-to-one or small group support, explanation, and/or reteaching as needed.
Students may be served in special education; or
Students may be served for English Learning.
Other as assigned.


Follow through with assigned duties, including substitute teaching plans if applicable.
Establishes a rapport with students and assists.
Provides learning and re-teaching of lessons as needed and as directed by the classroom teacher.
Observe/Chart student progress as directed.
Serve as a Check & Connect mentor to assigned students.
Redirect students who are off-task.
Assist students with transitions between activities/classes.
Maintain confidentiality.
Be a positive role model; modeling school appropriate behavior at all times.
Attend school sponsored training when appropriate.
Assist special education teachers as directed.
Communicate questions/concerns through proper channels.
Communicate/alert case manager with student concerns, missing assignments.


Requirements: Bachelor of Science or Arts degree with a MN Substitute Teaching License or the ability to obtain one.

Math and Science Academy (MSA) of Woodbury, MN is a public charter school that serves approximately 550 students in grades 6-12. We offer small class sizes in an academically challenging yet nurturing community which fosters MSA’s vision and mission. The school has a student to teacher ratio of 17:1. MSA has recently been ranked the top high school in the state by U. S. News and World Report and best public middle school and second best public high school in Minnesota by Niche. Niche also ranks MSA as having the best public high school teachers in the state. For the past five years MSA has had the top ACT Composite average score for all Minnesota schools. Last year, 100% of MSA students graduated and for the past five years, 95% of MSA seniors have graduated. Over this same time period, 90-95% of seniors have attended post-secondary institutions.
