Job Description

The College and Career Counselor will work with students dealing with stress from school, social pressures, and/or family life in order to provide them support and improve their classroom performance and overall wellness.

Primary duties: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
• Assist with post-secondary school planning and work one-on-one with students to do so.
• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to advise and assist students with academic and vocational development.
• Evaluate students’ attributes and assist them in realizing their objectives.
• Develop and implement counseling strategies with contemporary methods of mentoring.
• Identify behavioral problems and act appropriately to remedy the situation.
• Pay attention to societal and cultural differences in all student matters.
• Complete evaluations, analyze results and provide purposeful feedback.
• Cooperate with parents, academic staff and external partners.
• Arrange and schedule orientation programs and internships.
• Advertise facilities and study programs to potential students.
• Implement and facilitate educational and training workshops for academic staff.
• disseminate of scholarship information, supplying school-to-career guidance, interpreting standardized test scores, developing guidance curriculum, providing student resources, counseling individual students, coordinating with social service agencies, maintaining records, facilitating conferences and orientating new students.
• Supply admission requirements for colleges and training programs, and otherwise help students with graduation preparedness. To this end, counselors may invite Armed Forces recruiters and business leaders to the school to explain the benefits of their industries to high school graduates. They may also plan and execute career fairs and volunteer internships.
• Provide advice and support to students regarding education and employment options after high school

• Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
• Participates in various school events, staff meetings and extracurricular activities.
• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
• Serve as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalism

Qualifications

Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in Counseling or related (essential).
• Two years of work experience as a counselor in an academic environment.
• Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Motivational leader who displays sound judgment and attention to detail.
• Detail-oriented with excellent time-management skills.
• Confident interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledgeable of career preparation and strategies
• Perceptive intuition and decision-making skills.
• Remarkable professionalism and solid work ethic.
• Intermediate IT skills.
