Job Description

New City School
Dean of School Culture and Support 24-25 School year
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Dean of School Culture and Support at New City School will co-create (along with students, families, and staff) a learning community that honors diversity and holds the student's dignity at the center of the work. The Dean of School Culture and Support will hold staff and students accountable to actively participate in creating a supportive community where students are engaged in building knowledge, asking meaningful questions, designing creative solutions, opening their minds, caring for themselves and their community, and becoming skilled, responsive citizens in the world.
MAIN JOB DESCRIPTION
- Establish, implement, and evaluate effective interventions for increasing student success and achievement to build a positive environment for achieving educational outcomes.
- Respond to daily support calls from staff
- Respond to crises
- Oversee the student support system: collaborate with the student support specialist, special education team, social worker, classroom teachers, specialist teachers, support teachers, and paraprofessionals.
- Monitor and communicate student progress with students, families, administrators, and staff.
- Analyze academic and behavioral data collected from various records to help determine effective academic and behavioral interventions.
- Serve as a member of various building teams and act as a liaison; assist staff, students, and families in understanding building and school policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Lead staff in all student support situations
- Lead staff on discipline re-entry meetings
- Provide guidance and support for the Behavior Specialist.
- Daily Supervision and schedule creation
- Goal-setting sessions and weekly meetings
- Provide guidance and partnership to teachers and staff.
- Point of contact for families on issues related to student support
- Maintaining accurate data collection in PowerSchool or Panorama and looking for and reporting on meaningful trends
- Manage the implementation of the SEL curriculum (Fly Five)
- Manage the implementation of the Panorama SEL Assessment administration.
- Complete yearly state reporting for discipline-related incidents (DIRS)
- Assist in the formulation, implementation, and communication of school rules and provide leadership in the overall supervision and maintenance of student discipline.
- Stay current with best practices, research, and strategies.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

BA or MA in education
A valid MN Teaching License
Administrative License preferred
Knowledge of Restorative Practices
Knowledge of Responsive Classroom
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of stakeholders
Expertise in conflict resolution skills

Guided by its mission to effectively integrate social, emotional, and academic learning and to honor the diversity and individuality of each of each student, New City meets daily in “Crew” with a teacher guide for support, team-building, and anti-racist/exclusion work, limits class sizes, integrates arts, intentionally cultivates both the student and staff community and, through a pervasive growth orientation, aspires to launch students to high school and beyond to foster a new and better city.

Student day is from 9:15-3:45
Staff day is typically from 8:00 to 4:00 with flex.
