Job Description

New City School
7th-8th Grade Math Teacher/Crew Leader for the 24-25 School year

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Director and in collaboration with the Director of Teaching and Learning, an NCS Science Teacher/Crew Leader is responsible for supporting and guiding students by teaching science to students in grades 7th-8th and leading a morning crew group. Teachers/Crew Leaders are also expected to play an active role in supporting the operations and administration of the school.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
AS A TEACHER:
-Plan and implement effective instruction and assessment in Math in alignment with state (or Common Core) standards.
-Use data from exit tickets, interim assessments, and other formal and informal sources to adjust and direct instruction.
-Tailor instruction to meet individual student strengths, needs, and interests.
-Collaborate with advisors, administrators, students, and families to ensure each student receives the support they need.
-Maintain accurate, complete, and factual records on each student.
-Facilitate math-related student learning outside of school.

AS A CREW LEADER:
-Facilitate student advisory meetings (at least three days per week) that cultivate the learning community, connect students, and provide learning and practice in areas of social-emotional development and cultural competency
-Develop caring and supportive relationships with students and families.
-Celebrate student accomplishments and hold students accountable for their goals and standards.
-Advocate for and on behalf of students and families.
-Maintain accurate, complete, and factual records on each student.
-Monitor and share student progress, educationally and socially, with families, students and staff.

GENERAL:
-In collaboration with the school's Administration Team, work with others to pursue teaching excellence and maximum student learning.
-Monitor students when on school property.
-Attend staff meetings, professional development training, data analysis days, etc.
-Seek and learn from feedback to improve performance and professional competence.
-Support the school's administrative or operational work.

Qualifications

REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree
Current Minnesota teaching license in 5-12 Math
Experience with diverse student populations

REQUIRED MINDSETS
Growth Mindset: Teachers work with an understanding that focused work over time results in desired outcomes. Willingness to take risks in efforts to further student learning is encouraged.

Focus on Learning: Teachers routinely examine student learning results and plan instruction based on insights derived from data analysis. Engaging each student and moving each forward from her/his growing edge is the work. Learning with and from others is the norm.

Creativity and Flexibility: Teachers will demonstrate creativity and promote creativity among students and will serve flexibly in a variety of roles.

Teamwork: Teachers partner with teams for grade-level work and are engaged in weekly professional development with the teaching staff, continuously focused on developing and maintaining caring and supportive relationships. Teachers will also develop inclusive teams focused on developing and maintaining caring and supporting relationships through advisory.

Institution Description

New City Charter School is an innovative K-8 public charter school in its twentieth year in Northeast Minneapolis. Guided by its mission to effectively integrate social, emotional, and academic learning and to honor the diversity and individuality of each student, New City meets daily in “Crew” with a teacher guide for support, team-building, and anti-racist/exclusion work, limits class sizes, integrates arts, intentionally cultivates both the student and staff community and, through a pervasive growth orientation, aspires to launch students to high school and beyond to foster a new and better city.

Student day is from 9:15-3:45
Staff day is typically from 8:00 to 4:00 with flex.
