Job Description

Secondary English Language Arts
This position will be for the 2024/2025 School Year

HOPE Community Academy is an accredited, public co-educational charter school comprised of primary, intermediate, and middle school levels. The entire school community seeks to provide a safe and trusting learning environment where each student is valued and challenged to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

The mission of HOPE Community Academy is to educate all students to the highest levels of academic and social standards with a focus on Hmong language and culture.

As a vital part of the total learning community, HOPE Community Academy is called to educate students in an atmosphere enriched by shared Hmong and American values . . . peace, justice, and respect for one another. The school recognizes that a child’s healthy development is dependent upon learning and living out those values.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Secondary English Language Arts Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of English language arts curriculum in secondary education, the ability to engage and inspire students, and a commitment to fostering a love for literature and language. The Secondary English Language Arts Teacher will be responsible to plan, organize and implement an appropriate learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential base on HOPE’s instructional curriculum for students. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.

Primary duties: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the secondary English language arts curriculum.
• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to explore and appreciate literature and language.
• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students and promote critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Evaluate and assess student progress through assignments, projects, and assessments, providing constructive feedback to support ongoing growth and development.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary units and integrate technology into the curriculum to enhance learning experiences.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administrators regarding student progress, classroom activities, and school events.
• Stay updated on best practices and developments in English language arts education and participate in professional development opportunities.
Professional Accountabilities
• Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
• Participates in various school events, staff meetings and extracurricular activities.
• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
• Serve as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalism

Working Environment
• Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment; school building is a multi-level building that has an elevator and is accessible
• Position requires extensive interaction with children of all ages
• Duties may occasionally be performed on field trips away from school
• Duties may occasionally be performed in outdoor environments, such as athletic fields or playgrounds
• Duties may occasionally be performed in varying weather conditions, such as hot or cold weather.
• Possible exposure to loud and noisy locations (e.g. loud classrooms or cafeterias; children speaking or laughing loudly).

Qualifications

Qualifications
• B.A/B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field of teaching
• Minnesota State Licensure in teaching in appropriate subject area
• Strong desire and commitment to working with diverse students and staff
• Ability and flexibility to interact effectively with students, parents, and other school staff, the administration, and community members of diverse ethnic/racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Ability to collaborate with grade level teachers, paraprofessionals, and tutors regarding instructional classroom activities
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Have knowledge of best practices, instructional strategies, classroom management and behavior management
• Ability to plan and implement lesson plans base on school goals, as well as the objectives, and needs of students.
• Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations
• Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology, as appropriate.
• Knowledge of classroom management and organization
