Job Description

The K-5 Academic Math Coach is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and implementing a mathematical instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with the school's mission, vision, programs, and policies. The K-5 Academic Math Coach will work directly with teachers to co-teach and develop curriculum, instruction, and assessments to advance students’ math performances. The Academic K-5 Academic Math Coach works to support the Elementary Education Leader and reports to the Academic Director.

Professional Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Building
-Coordinate and support teachers in MCA prep for math K-5
-Coordinate and provide support and materials for math intervention during the day, after school, and summer program
-Coordinate scope and sequence/curriculum mapping (vertical/horizontal) to align with MN math standards
-Coordinate curriculum, instruction and assessments are rigorous and align to MN Benchmarks
-Be an active member of the Academic Team
-Be an active member of the Elementary Q Comp Teams
-Create, support and refined the District Math Plan
-Coordinate math curriculum/instruction K-5
-Coordinate UBD math planning, implementation, reflection and feedback for K-5 math teachers
-Support the inventory of math curriculum and resources
-Attend Grades K-5 math department meetings
-Attend all Academic Team meeting and other meetings needed
-Assist with school data analysis, substitute teaching, standardized assessments, and/or other duties as needed
-Exhibit the four PSA core values and adhere to the instructional coach’s oath
Coordinate math interventions
-Develop a backup plan for your position for emergency situations

Accountability & Support
-Provide and support with accountability expectations K-5 math teachers and math related personnel
-Support the review of math lesson plans weekly and offer feedback for grades K-5 math teachers
-Collaborate with K-5 Education Leader to support K-5 math
-Meet with K-5 math teachers at least twice per month to review progress
-Meet with Academic Director at least once per week to review progress

Coaching/Training
-Provide training, mentoring modeling and coaching of effective instructional practices for K-5 math teachers
-Facilitate bi-monthly data meetings with K-5 math teachers
-Coach and support teachers with math coaching plans
-Conduct math informal observations of K-5 math teachers
-Create, secure, and/or provide effective math resources and training for staff
-Conduct training and provide presentation on math to staff, Board and community
-Attend math professional development & training as needed

Results/Outcomes
-Ensure that all supplemental programs, such as IXL and RocketMath, are being implemented with fidelity
-Ensure that teachers are applying the school wide math initiatives - notice & wonder and anchor chart
-Ensure that all grade-level benchmarks/standards are covered for the respected grade
-Ensure that all lessons are rigorous, grade-level specific, and engaging to support learning
-Ensure that students are growing in their knowledge of mathematics and making adequate yearly progress in mathematics

Qualifications

-Acquired a MN teaching license (preferred math specialty)
-Acquired 3+ years of classroom teaching experiences
-Acquired 1+ years of math coaching or mentoring experiences
-Have comprehensive knowledge of teaching and learning mathematics & MN Mathematics benchmarks
-Have knowledge of best practices, instructional strategies, classroom management, and behavior management
-Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, students, and families
-Demonstrate respect for children, colleagues, parents, and school leadership
-Able to establish rapport and trusting relationships with people from diverse identities and cultural backgrounds.
-Able to build a deep understanding of data and implement strategies for classroom data integration
-Serves as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalism
-Have knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) and Responsive -Classroom is a plus
-Believe in and support the vision and mission of PSA
