Job Description

Academic Arts High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Language Arts Teacher-Advisor beginning the 2023-24 school year to help us achieve our school’s vision. Teacher-Advisors facilitate a standards-based curriculum through teaching engaging courses and advising students with the design and completion of individual projects.


Position description:

AHA teacher-advisors work with other teacher-advisors and staff to design curriculum and provide authentic, experiential, project-based learning for our students. Our learning community is small. Teacher-Advisors and staff at AHA contribute to the development of curriculum, polices/procedures, Osprey Wilds charter school authorizer goals, and school planning and, thus, are accountable for the success of our students. Teacher-Advisors report directly to the TPS Lead. Also under direction of the Curriculum Lead, Curriculum Committee, and Personnel Committee. Hours: 7:30AM - 3:30PM, Monday - Friday

Duties:

- Teach core classes, electives, and advisory (teachers with real world experience to incorporate into elective and non-content area classes are encouraged to apply!)

- Attend staff and committee meetings and staff development as needed

- Develop engaging, standards-based curriculum and projects for classes

- Communicate regularly with students / parents / and staff

- Execute committee responsibilities

- Promote the school mission, vision, core values

- Support the school’s commitment to equity and the school’s Anti-Racism statement

- Potential co-teaching opportunities

- Additional responsibilities as needed


Pay range:

- Competitive salary compared to surrounding districts. Inquires about pay range are welcomed.

- Competitive wages are dependent on experience and education and include full medical benefits and a comprehensive package of additional benefits.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

- Minnesota Teaching License (variances, out of field permissions considered)

- Passion for lifelong learning

- Experience working with students with unique, high needs (preferred)

- Experience with project-based and experiential learning (preferred)

- Experience with co-teaching (preferred)

- Great communication skills

- Knowledge of teacher-led school models (preferred)

- Ability to establish and maintain high academic standards and positive working relationships with students

- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with administration and colleagues

- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

- Demonstrated potential for instructional leadership and ability to work with data

About Academic Arts:

Academic Arts is a tuition-free charter public school serving grades 9-12 located in West St. Paul, MN (approximately 6 miles from downtown St. Paul). AHA is a Teacher-Powered School (TPS) and is run by a TPS Lead and TPS Committee of highly qualified staff members. This role will be a vital member of this committee.
