Job Description

Responsibilities:
• Explain, assist, and guide special education students with class assignments.
• Carry out and monitor the behavior of special education students in various settings by observing and keeping records, advising students and directing appropriate behavior.
• Assist the special education teacher(s) and specialists with modifying materials regarding the instruction of IEP students.
• Collaborates with special education and regular education teachers with classroom activities including academic, social, and executive functioning tasks.
• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, and program operation.
• Assist with the supervision of mealtime.
• Attend staff meetings, IEP meetings, staff development, and other district activities as directed.
• Perform other duties as appropriate to working with students with disabilities.

Professional Accountabilities
• Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
• Participates in various school events, staff meetings and extracurricular activities.
• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
• Serve as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalism

Qualifications

Qualifications
• Obtained an associate’s degree OR completed two years of study (60 semester credits) at an institution of higher education OR demonstrate competency through a formal state exam (Parapro)
• General knowledge of child development.
• Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, support staff and parents.
