Job Description

Aspire's ELL teacher will follow WIDA ELD standards, work collaboratively across content, and celebrate the beauty of multilingualism

Responsibilities:

Instruction: Design and deliver English language instruction tailored to the proficiency level and learning needs of students.

Assessment: Assess students' English language proficiency using standardized tests, informal assessments, and observations to track progress.

Differentiation: Differentiate instruction to accommodate various learning styles, language backgrounds, and proficiency levels within the classroom.

Curriculum Development: Develop or adapt curriculum materials, lesson plans, and resources to meet the linguistic and academic needs of ELL students.

Cultural Sensitivity: Foster a culturally responsive learning environment that respects and values students' diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Collaboration: Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to support ELL students' academic and social-emotional growth.

Parent Communication: Communicate regularly with parents or guardians to provide updates on students' progress, solicit feedback, and offer support for language development at home.

Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in ELL instruction, language acquisition theory, and culturally relevant pedagogy through professional development activities.

Data Analysis: Use student data to inform instructional decisions, identify areas for growth, and develop targeted interventions as needed.

Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of ELL students within the school community and beyond, including advocating for appropriate resources and support services.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Linguistics, or a related field.

Certification: Valid teaching certification/license, preferably with endorsements or specialization in ESL or ELL education.

Experience: Experience working with ELL students in a classroom setting, either through student teaching, tutoring, or previous teaching positions.

Language Proficiency: Proficiency in a second language may be beneficial, depending on the demographics of the student population.

Cultural Competency: Understanding of and sensitivity to cultural differences, including the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, families, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Pedagogical Skills: Strong understanding of language acquisition theory, effective instructional strategies for ELLs, and assessment techniques.

Technology Skills: Proficiency in using technology and digital tools to enhance instruction and support language learning.

Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to students, parents, and colleagues.

Flexibility: Willingness to adapt teaching methods and strategies based on students' needs, feedback, and changing circumstances.

Passion: Dedication to supporting the academic success and socio-emotional well-being of ELL students, along with a passion for promoting language diversity and multicultural understanding.
