Education Specialist

Job Description

The Specialist Education Advisor works with 8-15 students (students on Individualized Education Plans (IEP), Section 504 Plans, and students that are receiving interventions as part of the Child Find Process) in the completion of Minnesota Standards requirements in a collaborative co-taught classroom. The Educational Specialist Advisor will assist students in finding resources or steps of project completion as needed. Keep all attendance, transcripts, and records up to date and available for students’ use. The Educational Specialist Education Advisor is responsible for assisting Special Education Advisors in data collection, being present at team meetings and providing recommendations for educational programming. Additionally, Advisors “check-in” with students daily setting goals that address academic as well as personal goals. Advisors also take an active role in site-based teams. Advisors take on additional duties as necessary, according to availability, skills, and talents.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

License Requirements: Minnesota licensure grades 6-12.

Education: BA/BS from accredited college or university.

Experience: Diverse background with hobbies and talents to share. Enjoy the outdoors, nature and outdoor projects.

Degree of supervision: Indirect supervision, essentially reports to all staff.

Physical demands: The position requires daily physical activities outdoors.

First aid, CPR, wilderness safety, and lifeguard training may be required.

Ability to serve on two management teams.

Ability to think outside the box. Collaborate, take leadership and develop a system. Follow it through to completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

Charter school experience.

Project-Based Learning and/or personalized learning experience.

Teacher-led/powered school governance experience.

License in Special Education and/or another license. *Behavior Specialist license preferred

As a small, project-based school we serve a total of 115 students in grades 6 - 12. Terra Nova has a focus on the environmental sciences in addition to core subject areas.
