Job Description

Health / Physical Education

This position will be for the 2024/2025 School Year

HOPE Community Academy is an accredited, public co-educational charter school comprised of primary, intermediate, middle school, and high school levels. The entire school community seeks to provide a safe and trusting learning environment where each student is valued and challenged to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
The mission of HOPE Community Academy is to educate all students to the highest levels of academic and social standards with a focus on Hmong language and culture.
As a vital part of the total learning community, HOPE Community Academy is called to educate students in an atmosphere enriched by shared Hmong and American values . . . peace, justice, and respect for one another. The school recognizes that a child’s healthy development is dependent upon learning and living out those values.
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Secondary Health / Physical Education (PE) Teacher to join our dedicated faculty and inspire students to lead healthy, active lifestyles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health education, physical fitness, and an understanding of adolescent development. As a Secondary Health / PE Teacher, you will play a key role in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment while promoting the holistic well-being of our students.

Primary duties: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
• Design and deliver engaging and comprehensive health and physical education curriculum for secondary students, aligning with state standards and educational best practices.
• Teach a range of health topics, including nutrition, mental health, substance abuse prevention, human anatomy, and personal wellness, with a focus on promoting informed decision-making and lifelong health habits.
• Instruct students in various physical activities and sports, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and overall physical fitness.
• Create and implement lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring a safe and inclusive PE environment for all students.
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support individual growth and achievement in health and physical education.
• Organize and oversee extracurricular activities, such as fitness clubs, intramural sports, or health awareness events, to promote student engagement and community involvement.
• Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders to support students' overall well-being and success, integrating health and wellness initiatives across the school community.
• Stay informed about current trends and research in health education and physical fitness, integrating new strategies and resources into the curriculum as appropriate.
• Foster a positive and respectful classroom culture, promoting responsibility, respect, and empathy among students while serving as a positive role model for healthy living and active lifestyles.
Professional Accountabilities:
• Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.

• Participates in various school events, staff meetings and extracurricular activities.

• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the principal or other appropriate administrator.

• Serve as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalism

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Physical Education, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Valid teaching certification in Health and Physical Education as required by the state or district.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching secondary students, with a passion for promoting health literacy, physical fitness, and overall wellness.
• Strong knowledge of health education principles, physical fitness concepts, and best practices in promoting healthy behaviors among adolescents.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
• Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes physical activity, positive self-image, and overall well-being.
• Ability to utilize technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning and engagement.

Working Environment:
• Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment; school building is a multi-level building that has an elevator and is accessible
• Position requires extensive interaction with children of all ages
• Duties may occasionally be performed on field trips away from school
• Duties may occasionally be performed in outdoor environments, such as athletic fields or playgrounds
• Duties may occasionally be performed in varying weather conditions, such as hot or cold weather.
• Possible exposure to loud and noisy locations (e.g. loud classrooms or cafeterias; children speaking or laughing loudly).
